note to self (don’t lose what’s most important)

I get excited because one of my co-workers explains things clearly and speaks very nerdy-funny. But then my excitement goes overboard and this person thinks I like this person. This is a problem, because the most important thing that I is doing science well at this job. That is it. I had better not do anything stupid to hurt my chances of learning science and becoming a better scientific thinker. I am going to tone down my excitement, (because it is threatening this person) and replace it with distant admiration. My parents said something apt: “It’s better to not be super excited/friendly/etc initially because that shows that you are trying to get something from them.” I’m going to contain myself and try to become more productive at work.
